Trans-Ocean Moves to Information Resources, Inc. (IRI) for Refrigerated Seafood Sales Data
Move made to improve category management capabilities.
Bellingham, WA, July 7, 2008 - Trans-Ocean Products, Inc, the market leader in the U.S. retail surimi seafood category and a top refrigerated seafood brand announces that is has contracted with Information Resources, Inc. (IRI) of Chicago, IL for retail sales reporting information. Trans-Ocean's decision to move to IRI, and away from its previous supplier, was made because IRI provides a more complete look at the refrigerated seafood category. Previously, Trans-Ocean was only able to track its sales and those of its competitors in the surimi seafood category. With IRI, the company will now have access to sales data from product categories such as smoked salmon, canned crabmeat, seafood dips, and many other products.
"As our Crab Classic brand has grown to be one of the best sellers in the entire refrigerated seafood category, it became essential that our category management capabilities be expanded to include all products, not just surimi seafoods," commented Larry Mulvey, Vice President of Business Development at Trans-Ocean. "It's a significant annual investment for Trans-Ocean but worthwhile because of all of the information it allows us with to share with our retail customers."
IRI is the world's leading provider of market information that enables manufacturers to understand product performance in the retail marketplace. Trans-Ocean will use IRI's XleratePlus program to analyze volume in the refrigerated seafoods category and advise retailers in the areas of optimum product assortment and retail shelf space allocation to drive increased sales and profits in the department.
Trans-Ocean's Crab Classic brand is the leader in surimi seafoods with a 35% share of the market. Over the past 4 years, Crab Classic has been one of the fastest growing, nationally distributed seafood brands. Earlier in 2008, Trans-Ocean introduced a smoked salmon product line, extending its reach further into the refrigerated seafood category.
Trans-Ocean Products, Inc., founded in 1985, is one of the country's largest processors of surimi seafoods sold under the Classic brand name and also as private labels. The vertically integrated company is a United States subsidiary of Maruha-Nichiro which owns three surimi block plants in Alaska and two floating processor ships in addition to a surimi seafood processing facility in Bellingham, WA.
