Why the seafood you eat should be MSC certified.
Seafood has been an important food source for the world's population
for thousands of years. It plays a vital role in many local economies
and cultural traditions in major cities and remote villages around the
world. Today, due to advancements in the commercial fishing industry,
the oceans that provide our seafood supply are being overfished.
Without strong action, it is possible that several species of seafood
could disappear altogether.
The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) was established in 1997
to address the overfishing problem and to develop standards for
environmentally sustainable, well-managed fisheries. MSC worked
with scientists, fisheries experts and environmental organizations to
establish the criteria for what would qualify a fishery for certification.
MSC rewards fisheries that are environmentally responsible with a
distinctive blue product label that is becoming recognized by educated
consumers in the United States and around the world.
You will find the MSC blue label on packages of Crab Classic. Because
the primary ingredient in Crab Classic is Alaska Pollock, which is an MSC
certified fishery, Trans-Ocean and our Classic brand are recognized as
MSC certified. Trans-Ocean was required to meet MSC's Chain of Custody
requirements to validate that the processing of the Crab Classic product
is done in an environmentally sound manner.
Trans-Ocean is proud to display the MSC logo on our product packaging.
We support MSC's efforts to protect the long-term sustainability of our
seafood supply.
